Itinerary

Iberá Wetlands tours
From Posadas to Iberá

  • Transfer from Posadas to  Iberá Wetlands

Upon arrival in Posadas you will be taken to a local estancia (typical Argentine ranch), settled in the Esteros del Iberá area, near the popular Iberá wetlands. Esteros del Iberá is more of a once-in-a-lifetime experience than a tour.

This is the perfect place for travelers who want to experience ecotourism,  explore an off-the-beaten-path destination in Argentina and be truly in contact with nature and local fauna. The Esteros are the second-largest wetlands in the world, after Pantanal in Brazil, and are also one of the biggest fresh water reservoirs on the continent.

The estancia is the perfect base to explore the area and enjoy a typical gaucho environment. This is much more like a family house than a hotel, so you will have the chance to try homemade food and learn about inhabitants’ customs. Once in the estancia you will have the afternoon to explore the beautiful, secluded countryside on foot or on horseback.

Day1

Iberá wetlands tours: Wildlife & Nature

  • Explore the Iberá wetlands: boat trip or horseback ride

After a homemade breakfast you will head out to explore the Ibera wetlands. Take a boat trip to see alligators and capybaras, and do some serious flora and fauna sightseeing. The natural reserve is home to some exotic species which have been declared Provincial Natural Monuments, like the marsh deer, as well as some impressive aquatic vegetation. If you would prefer an even more adventurous activity, take a horseback ride along the Iberá marshes and feel like a real Argentine gaucho.

Say Hueque Tips

Take a look at some of the typical Esteros del Iberá local fauna and make your own “checklist”; if you’re lucky you may get to see them all! The best time to spot wildlife in this spellbinding place is really early in the morning or at sunset, when the animals are more active.

Day2

From Iberá Wetlands to Puerto Iguazú

  • Transfer from Iberá Wetlands to Posadas

Say goodbye to the awe-inspiring sunrise of Puerto Valle and get ready to continue your journey. In the morning, you’ll be picked up and driven to Posadas, approximately 4 hours away.

  • Travel to Puerto Iguazú by public bus

Once you arrive in Posadas you’ll take the public bus to Puerto Iguazú (180 miles away), the gateway city into the famous Iguazú Falls. If you would prefer to schedule private transportation to bring you to Puerto Iguazú, please just let us know and we will quote it for you.

  • Arrival in Puerto Iguazú / Transfer to your hotel and day at leisure

Upon arrival in Puerto Iguazú, you will be taken to your hotel. You will have the afternoon to relax and enjoy the tropical climate and jungle setting. If you’re eager to explore, you can visit the “Hito Tres Fronteras”, a viewpoint west of the town center that stands high above the turbulent reddish-brown junction of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers, which also form the Triple Frontera, or Triple Border between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.

Say Hueque Tips

Recommended tour in Iguazú for your first day:

  • For the most adventurous, we recommend taking a bike tour through the rainforest with a specialized guide. You will discover the flora and fauna, the sounds of the jungle, the trails of little native mammals and the traditions of the Guaranies.
Day3

Iguazú Falls, Argentine side

  • Wander Iguazú Falls National Park and meet The Devil’s Throat

Today our driver and bilingual guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the National Park, on the Argentinian side. Enjoy a 7-hour tour wandering through the rainforest!

The falls are surrounded by a humid subtropical forest where the exuberant vegetation is home to many different animals and birds. Our guide will help you spot some of them: ant birds, toucans, manakins, parrots, coatis, just to name a few of the most common birds. Lower and upper walkways weave in and around falls permitting up close and personal experiences with this magnificent spectacle of nature.

The Argentine side of the falls is filled with a myriad of paths and walkways and stairways which allow you to have an experience from many different perspectives. You will have the chance to meet “The Devil’s throat”: the largest of the falls and for many the most spellbinding. To get to the “Devil’s throat” you take the ecological train and then walk out along boardwalks. After walking and taking pictures of animals and plants, you will have some free time to eat lunch in this amazing environment. At the end of the experience, we will drive you back to your hotel.

Say Hueque Tips

  • Would you love to have a “Great Adventure”?

The “Great Adventure” (gran aventura) is an optional tour you can add on this day. You will take an open air jeep through the rainforest and then a zodiac open air boat ride up the river to the base of the falls (there is a 100% chance that you will get soaking wet on this boat trip, so be sure to take some extra clothes!).

Day4

Iguazú Falls, Brazilian side
End of your trip

  • Visit the Brazilian side of Iguazú National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a 3-4  hour tour to the Brazilian side of the Iguazú Falls. While Argentina has 80% of the falls on its side, Brazil has the best panoramic view. On the Argentinian side you will have the sensation of being right inside the falls, but only by visiting the Brazilian side you will fully appreciate the immensity of Iguazú falls. Take your time to enjoy it and feel it, to stroll the different walkways and feel the spray of water in your face. Take the boardwalk over the Salto Santa María, it feels like walking on the water. Get closer to the “Devil’s Throat” and feel the power of water! We are sure this is a day you will never forget. At the end of the day we will drive you back to your hotel.

  • Transfer to the airport

This is the end of your visit to Iguazú Fall and your trip to Iberá Marshlands. At the appropriate time in the afternoon, we’ll drive you to the airport. If you don’t want to end this adventure, you can choose to extend your travels by adding on any optional activities, touring in Brazil, Patagonia or the Andes area.
