Upon arrival at Bariloche, we’ll meet at the airport or bus station and drive you to your hotel.
At the appropriate time in the afternoon, you’ll pick up your car at our local operator’s office and you’ll meet our local guide who will brief you and share all the information you need for starting your self-drive trip to the lake district.
Drive through the classic San Carlos de Bariloche loop circuit and experience this small mountain village that evolved into one of the most captivating cities in Patagonia. We recommend visiting sights like Campanario Hill and the Llao-Llao Península, where you’ll be amazed by the picture-perfect views of Moreno Lake, Nahuel Huapi Lake, Lopez Mountain and Capilla Mountain.
Take Exequiel Bustillo Ave. and drive to Llao Llao Península.

Leaving Bariloche you will drive along Nahuel Huapi Lake on the left. The vegetation is becoming thinner, the forest can be seen on the distant mountains, but by the highway it is steppe-like: low bushes and shrubs adapted to the strong Patagonian winds. Just ahead is the Limay River, the outlet of Lake Nahuel Huapi. It marks the border between Río Negro and Neuquén provinces. After a “U” shaped section to cross the Huemul River, the road then reaches the main body of the lake. To the west you can see Victoria Island and further north is Quetrihué Peninsula, which is part of the Arrayanes National Park – the “Arrayan” is a unique Patagonian Tree, with soft “latte-coloured” bark, which is a member of the Myrtle tree family.
Los Arrayanes National Park is the only myrtle wood in the world. This park became a protected area due to the importance of its species (the Arrayan as the “king species” in the park), and the variety of native life. Entrance fee will be required (not included).
Take NR 40 to Puerto de la Villa, once there, you can make a 7-km walk to the forest or enjoy a navigation.
