Travel Tales of Argentina
Looking for something a little more structured to do in Ushuaia besides wandering around? Don’t get me wrong—wandering is great fun, but sometimes you want a plan that takes you directly to see the best parts of the area. After all, when you only have a couple days to experience a place, you want to see as much as you can.
Tours are great opportunities to see the most beautiful and exciting parts of Ushuaia while also learning a bit of background information and history. If they’re group tours, they allow you to meet other travelers and also learn a portion of what’s made Argentina the country it is today.
The following are all tours in Ushuaia that you can do with us at Say Hueque to give you more variety during your stay.
TIERRA DEL FUEGO NATIONAL PARK
Located 11 km from Ushuaia, it is the only coastal National Park of the country.
Heading west along the National Road Nº 3, visitors can reach the park via bus, taxis, car rentals or just trekking along marked trails.
While entering the park, you can make a detour to see Ensenada Bay, a great spot where you can take good pictures of the channel waters and Isla Redonda. Back on the road, flanked by a dense green forest of lengas, ñires and cohiues, you will reach a bridge over Lapataia River.
At this spot, you can get a glimpse of the surrounding area and do some walking around Laguna Negra, Lake Roca, and Mirador Lapataia.
Following the winding gravel road, you will get to Lapataia Bay, where a sign indicates the end of the National Road 3.
4WD LAKE TOUR
For this tour we are going to pick you up at your hotel and drive along number 3 National Route towards the lakes district.
We are going to reach Garibaldi Pass from where we will be able to see our targets: Escondido and Fagnano Lakes. Following old woodcutter trails the Land Rover allows us to reach sites otherwise impossible due to the forest, mud, rocks. Fagnano Lake will surprise us with its size and landscape. This part of the journey ends at a camp where a barbecue will be offered. While the meal is being prepared, we can walk around and discover the wilderness of the place.
After lunch, we will head towards Escondido Lake, smaller than Fagnano Lake but a place of great beauty. Once the canoes are ready, we start rowing amazed by the view we have from our position in the water. Around an hour journey separates us from Petrel Inn, in the coast of the lake, where our adventure ends. We will then return to Ushuaia City.
WALK IN PENGUIN ROOKERY / VISIT HARBERTON RANCH
Departing from our office at the tourist dock in Ushuaia, we drive in our modern minibuses towards northeast along Nationals route 3 & J, the legendary road to Estancia Harberton (the first farm on the island, founded in 1886 by the Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges, located 90 Km from Ushuaia, on the Beagle Channel).
We sail from Harberton harbor to Martillo Island, a 15 minute ride on a semi-rigid boat (vessel capable of navigation in the area). On the island, we will walk for 1 hour along Gentoo and Magellanics penguins, always with a guide, experiencing a unique adventure only with us!
During summertime, penguins establish on the island. They share the habitat with other birds, such as skúas (their main predator), petrels, cormorants, vultures and South American terns.
CITY TOUR ON MOUNTAIN BIKE
It is a different way to discover Ushuaia City, past, present and future by riding a MTB.
We will pick you up at your hotel on a minibus and take you to Pipo river`s valley, 10km away from the city, close to the End of the World Train. From there, and after a short instruction of safety riding off route and in the city area, we will enter to the forest through an old woodcutters trail. We will reach the city making different stops in panoramic, historic and cultural places.
We will see the particular architecture of the city that contrast with magnificent landscapes. The tour ends in the front of the port, in a downtown area.
