Valparaiso has a history as colorful as the houses that make up it, but one of the most famous residents of this now, bohemian waterfront city was the poet Pablo Neruda. Neruda’s favorite house is located just outside Valparaiso on Isla Negra where the poet found both refuge and inspiration from 1939 to his death in 1973. The house is modeled to resemble a boat, complete with a nautical theme and creaky floorboards. However, now you can tour the structure as a museum that preserves the poet’s collection of antique bottles, native masks and nautical artifacts.
