Botanical Garden & Tijuca Forest

botanic garden in rio de janeiro

Discover the natural side of Rio de Janeiro in a unique experience that combines the beauty of the city’s Botanical Garden with the lush landscapes of Tijuca National Park, one of the world’s largest urban forests.

The journey begins at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, founded in 1817 by King John VI of Portugal. Originally created for the cultivation of exotic plants, this historic park is now home to an impressive collection of rare and native species from around the world. Highlights include the iconic imperial palm trees, the giant Victoria water lilies (Victoria Regia), the endangered pau-brasil trees of the Atlantic Forest, and the famous greenhouse, where more than 500 orchid species are carefully preserved.

The adventure continues into the Tijuca Atlantic Forest, where you will visit the Vista Chinesa viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, Guanabara Bay, and Sugarloaf Mountain. Along the way, keep an eye out for Rio’s wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, and colorful tropical birds living in their natural habitat.

On the return journey, we will stop by at Pepino Beach, a popular spot to watch hang gliders soaring above the coastline, adding a final touch of adventure to this nature-filled experience.
