Say Hueque & Techo organization

Say Solidario participates in various projects throughout the year. One of them is providing manual assistance to Techo organization.

“Techo” – the word for roof in English – is a youth led non-profit organization present in Latin America & the Caribbean. Through the joint work of families living in extreme poverty with youth volunteers, this organization seeks to overcome poverty in slums.

Techo organization is convinced that poverty can be permanently eradicated if society as a whole recognizes poverty as a priority and actively works towards overcoming it.

Dedicated to building houses for local families in need of a home, working with Techo provides us an opportunity to help build the house from the ground up alongside the family.

Say Hueque volunteers went to work in this Project on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of June. There were two different groups of 10 people from our agency that worked with the neighbors and the family of the people who was going to receive the house.

The tasks involved bringing the material from the trucks and taking it to the site where the house was going to be built, dig grounds of nearly 1 meter of deep, planting poles in the dirt and level them out in order to build the floor, raise the walls and finally put the sheets on the ceiling.

With the effort of an entire working group, the house was ready to be used after two days of hard work.

“The best part of working in a charity event was to build a house for someone who really needed it and also that there were exchanges with people of all ages and social sectors. There were many children trying to take part of this, which allowed us to share a lot with them.

Spending two days working in this project with co-workers improved and strengthened our ties by sharing this moment together.” Exequiel Calderón.

Say Hueque wants to take this opportunity to thank all contributors and volunteers who made this unforgettable experience possible. If you are interested in reading more about or project or beeing part of Say Salidario, do not hesitate to contact us to
