Travel Tales of Argentina
Spring is in the air and the glacial lakes are warming up in the icy region of pretty Patagonia. This spring/summer is the perfect time to travel to Patagonia and explore the incredible national parks in the south-western tip of the country, where you can see the impressive Argentina glaciers. Argentina is home to over 300 glacier parks and is the perfect place for Patagonia trekking if mountain climbing and stunning glacial views tickle your fancy. Los Glaciares National Park, located near El Calafate, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to ice fields that cover about 40% of the park’s surface. Within the park you will find two lakes and 47 major Argentina glaciers. Thirteen of these glaciers reach toward the Atlantic, while the glaciers Perito Moreno, Mayo, Spegazzini, Upsala, Agassiz, Onelli, Ameghino feed the lakes in the park. Now we are talking water coverage or what!
The Perito Moreno Glacier is a particularly special glacier because it is actually growing in size! It is one of only three glaciers in the world that is growing and not melting-thankfully. It measures over 3 miles in width and covers a width of around 97 square miles! Now that is a lot of ice in what is certainly one of the most impressive Argentina Glaciers!
Trek across the Perito Moreno Glacier for an incredible Patagonia Adventure!
A classic and ideal tour for glacier fiends is to travel to Patagonia and stay in the gorgeous city of El Calafate, which is located within a stone’s throw of Perito Moreno Glacier. After exploring these icy waters and prehistoric lands (you can even trek across the glacier itself!) many travelers will also make a trip to the location of another of the Argentina Glaciers: El Chalten. This small town is situated right near the Viedma Glacier where you can have a Patagonian adventure and explore the spectacular and the largest glacier lake in Argentina. Crack on your crampons and discover an icy underworld from above. The stunning blue hues that echo throughout the glacier are truly unique and is the perfect excuse to travel to Patagonia-even if you only do it once.
Viedma Glacier, the largest of the Argentina Glaciers
Los Glaciares National Park also includes a wide variety of shrub, rivers, lakes and forests that meet the Andean steep. The flora and fauna is so unique in this part of the world due to the humidity on the other side of the steep Andes that gives for unique warmth creating luscious life.
If you are making plans to travel to Patagonia to visit some of these incredible Argentina Glaciers for yourself, now’s your chance! Grab your walking boots and start planning the trip of a lifetime with this incredible tour of El Calafate and El Chalten! Patagonia offers some of the best trekking and landscapes in the world, so start planning your trip today!
