Travel Tales of Argentina
You’ve probably heard of Mendoza, the world famous wine country in Argentina. But what exactly is Mendoza? The Mendoza region is so much more than the capital city of Mendoza. Many visitors stay in the city, but some of the best sights to see (like wineries!) are outside of the city center in the more rural parts of the province. Partaking in a few Mendoza day trips during your stay will increase your knowledge of the region and your love for everything it has to offer. Here are some of our most recommended Things to do in Mendoza!
Rafting and Horseback Riding
A fun and full adventure experience, navigating trough Class III rapids along the Mendoza River in Potrerillos, taking in the stunning backdrop of the Andes mountains range that surround you. This pleasant and fun activity will sure be a memorable event. Enjoy a ride through the hills of Salto, in Potrerillos area while admiring unforgettable landscapes and interacting with the beautiful local flora and fauna.
Thermal Hot Springs
After all of that hard-core rafting exercise, you might be tired and want to relax. Head out to the hot springs at Termas Chacueta, a resort perfect to spend the day soaking away your pains. Termas Chacuetas is a full complex of indoor and outdoors pools, hot, warm, and cold springs, swimming pool, and mud bath. Mid-day, guests are served a delicious buffet brunch to be enjoyed while wearing the resort’s white fluffy robes. Only about 45 minutes outside of Mendoza capital in the small town of Chacueta, these hot springs are a great way to fully enjoy the climate and geography of the region.
High Andes & Trekking to Aconcagua Viewpoint
Looking for adventure? Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Western Hemsphere and right in your backyard in Mendoza! Enjoy a full day trip high into the Andes as you drive through the most amazing mountain landscapes. Visit small villages along the road such as Potrerillos, Uspallata, Puente del Inca, Penitentes and Horcones at the foot of Mount Aconcagua. Continue onwards with a short trekking until reaching the viewponit of Mount Aconcagua, highest peak in Southamerica, 6952 masl.
Winery Tours
No trip to Mendoza would be complete without some world-famous wine tasting. Many of the highest rated wineries are located in driving distance to Mendoza city. It is a great opportunity to visit a more remote winery to immerse yourself in wine country and see the miles of grapevines and wide expanse of each winery. There are numerous wineries in the Lujan de Cuyo and Uco Valley regions. You can choose to spend one or two days visiting wineries in each of these areas, depending on how you are scheduling your Mendoza day trips. Check out some Lujan de Cuyo winery highlights at Casarena, Kaiken, Dominio del Plata, and Familia Cassone. An excellent lunch and wine pairing is always necessary, so stop by Dominio del Plata for their tasting menu.
