As one of the world’s largest waterfalls, Iguazu Falls is not a place you would want to test out the old barrel over a waterfall theory. 1. Can you swim in the Iguazu Falls?
Walking along with either of the park’s two main circuits, visitors are provided with a seemingly infinite number of breathtaking views of the falls and at the same time are continuously presented with signs informing them that swimming is not permitted.
Though this may seem obvious to most, the obvious sometimes needs to be reinforced by way of public signs because the more adventurous people in the world, always looking for the next feat to conquer.
However, while these walking circuits are located in areas far too dangerous for swimming, if you’re interested in doing some Iguazu Falls Swimming, there is a place you can do so.
2. Iguazú Falls swimming: Where to go?
The trail to the Iguazu Falls swimming area is almost 4 kilometers in length, leading its followers deep into the forest. Also giving you a chance to sneak a peek at some animals you won’t be able to find in the main touristic area.
Go for an easy hike
The hike is extremely easy-going and enjoyable. Being so far off the beaten path, you’ll rarely come into contact with other visitors, and when you do, expect a pleasant encounter with these like-minded adventurers. After a little more than an hour, you’ll arrive to a set of stairs leading down into a wooded area, which will take you to the falls. While descending the stairs you’ll start hearing the waterfall in all it’s glory, preparing you for what’s to come.

Depending on the time of year you might encounter the area completely vacant, though in
the low season, the water will be slightly colder than what some might find comfortable. With such an unique experience you cannot let the chilly temperature stop you from completely immersing yourself in the water. After the long walk you might enjoy a refreshing dip in the water, where you will have the chance to relax and take some fotos of your discovery.
Despite the bug bites and sore feet, people tend to thoroughly enjoy the experience of taking a swim under a waterfall. It is truly one for the books.
3. Iguazu Falls – Walkways
Part of the reason Iguazu Falls is such a popular tourist destination is because in addition to the Garganta del Diablo, there are a large number of smaller, less intense waterfalls within the surrounding forest that visitors can explore.
Walking through the forest
Apart from the two main walking circuits, which are fashioned with metal walkways and handrails, Iguazu Falls National Park also has other walking trails that are more remotely located, giving guests the opportunity to hike, rather than walk, to these smaller waterfalls. At the end of one of these trails there is a waterfall with a small area below in which visitors can swim. By inspecting the map of the National Park, you’ll notice this feature.
If it is something you want to do, it is recommended to finish everything you want to do in the main area of the park, to make sure you don’t encounter time problems, and miss out on the main event.
