Travel Tales of Argentina
Mendoza is an area full of adventure sports, hiking trails, and, of course, wine tours. With all of these outdoor activities, it is crucial to know what to expect weather-wise, in order to be prepared and comfortable. Here is a brief summary of what you should know about Mendoza weather.
Mendoza is located at the base of the Andes Mountains, with beautiful scenery throughout the region. This of course affects Mendoza weather and part of the reason the area is so fertile for wine growing. Mendoza has a cold desert climate that is mild and dry, similar to that of California! Throughout the year, it is common to have bright sun and clear skies, even if temperatures are lower. As temperatures drop closer to the mountains, it is important to always pack warm clothes whenever you visit Mendoza.
Warm season is from November to March, with highest temperatures in January. Average high temperature during this time is 28°C (82°F). Cold season lasts from May to August, with an average high temperature of 18°C (64°F). The cold is dry with low humidity levels. Pack warmly if you visit in July, the coldest month of the year. Interestingly, rainy season is more likely in summer months and Mendoza weather is driest in colder July. Rainfall can range from light drizzle to thunderstorms, with a wide range of precipitation levels. Expect snowfall in the mountain ranges surrounding the capital city during winter months. This provides a great opportunity for skiing!
