Travel Tales of Argentina
Sundays are unlike any other day in the city. Everyone is at home enjoying their Sunday asado (BBQ) and the streets are relatively deserted. That is unless you are on Defensa street in San Telmo. If you decide to venture outside on this quiet day, San Telmo is the place to be. In San Telmo one of the many Buenos Aires Markets fills the streets.
Cruise the busy streets of San Telmo during this Buenos Aires Market
San Telmo is a bohemian neighborhood located near downtown Buenos Aires. It is famous for its cobblestone streets and graffiti artwork. On Sundays, the street called Defensa is closed to traffic and turns into a beautiful street market. Artists, jewelry designers, fabric weavers and antique vendors line the street as tourists and locals alike stroll through the artisan options. A trip to the San Telmo Sunday Market is a trip back in time. There are also musicians and street performers as well as homemade local food vendors selling coffee and sweets.
Craftmanship at the San Telmo Market
The heart of San Telmo neighborhood is Plaza Dorrego. The cafes that surround the square are the perfect spot to pause for lunch, sit outside and enjoy the Sunday Market.
