2023 is the perfect year to travel to South America. Come explore some of the most amazing natural wonders of the world. In honor of the New Year, we´ve pulled together a list of what we think will be some incredible adventures that can help make 2023 your best year yet.
Updated to 2023
1. Drying out in the Desert Adventure
Find yourself captivated by the Atacama Desert. Its 600 miles (1000 km) expanse is considered the driest desert in the world, but that didn’t always use to be the case. As it is located between two mountain ranges, the Atacama gets almost no rainfall, which makes it very hard for plants or animals to live there. You can find yourself exploring Moon Valley, Chilean salt caves, and the geothermal wonders of the Tatio Geysers, which are all sites to see inside this giant desert.
Because of the barren climate, this geographic wonder sees extreme temperatures with the daytime heat reaching above 100°F (40°C), while the night brings chilly temperatures around 40°F (5°C). But don´t let the cold stop you from enjoying the Atacama, it´s home to one of the best views of stars in the nighttime sky. Indeed one of the best places for adventure travel!
- It is time to go stargazing in the Atacama Desert!
2. Cruising the Arctic Adventure
Another must-do trip this year is a Patagonian cruise. Leave all of the hassles of planning a trip to us, and just sit back and relax as you make your way through breathtaking views in the most southern region of the planet. These cruises let you see plentiful wildlife, like penguins, elephant seals and so much more, but they also provide you with an opportunity to visit South America as Darwin did himself. It sounds like one of the best places for adventure travel.
The journey will leave you in awe as you explore the wonder of glaciers and discover the diversity of flora and fauna in a UNESCO biosphere site. All this is visible while you navigate between Argentina and Chile. A Patagonian cruise wily be a trip you’ll never forget.
3. Back in Time Adventure
Another must-see visit in South America is the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in Peru. Travel destinations with historical roots and cultural traditions never get old because they capture the past today into the present. Peru provides a rich cultural offering of the history of the Incan people.
With a visit to the Sacred Valley, you’ll be close to Awana Kancha farm where youally have a cultural fix, discovering the ranch where Andean camelids are bred, but also learn about their weaving practices. Not far past the ranch, you can visit Pisac, which is the home to more architectural wonders of the Incan people as well as a market in modern-day times.
- The best time to visit Machu Picchu is during the dry season, between May and September: when the rainy season is on, low clouds can make it hard to see the sacred city.
4. Mountain Climbing Adventure
To really make the most of your year, you have to make time for a climbing and hiking adventure and the perfect place to do that is in Patagonia. Find yourself face to face with mountains and glaciers throughout the Andean mountain range. Find yourself on both sides of the border exploring Chile´s Torres del Paine National Park as well as Argentina’s el Chaltén, which has been called more beautiful than the former.
Torres del Paine “W” circuit awaits you! This hiking trail is the most famous at the national park and will show you the main highlights of it such as the Paine Horns. Outstanding views are guaranteed. On the other hand, El Chlatén in Argentina is known as the hiking capital city which makes it one of the best places for adventure travel. Hike to the foot of Mount Fitz Roy and marvel at this rocky giant!
No matter what adventures your 2022 may bring we´re happy to help you discover South America along the way.
